The name michael scott ryan can lead readers to several different references, which can make online searches confusing. In particular, the name is associated with an American voice actor known for anime dubbing, while another Michael Scott Ryan is an American writer who became publicly known through his marriage to actress Jennifer Ehle. The name can also remind fans of the television comedy The Office, where Michael Scott and Ryan Howard are two separate characters.
Understanding these distinctions makes it easier to identify which michael scott ryan a search is referring to.
Who Is Michael Scott Ryan?
One notable Michael Scott Ryan is an American voice actor whose work is particularly associated with English-language anime dubbing and animation. He became recognized among anime fans for portraying Kagato in the Tenchi Muyo! franchise.
According to IMDb’s credits, Ryan provided the English voice for Kagato and was also credited under the name Weston Peese.
Although his voice-acting career was not extremely long, several of his credits remain recognizable to fans of 1990s anime and animation. His work demonstrates how voice actors can become strongly associated with individual characters even when their overall filmography is relatively small.
Michael Scott Ryan and Kagato in Tenchi Muyo!
For many anime viewers, Kagato is the role most strongly connected with michael scott ryan.
Kagato is an important antagonist in the Tenchi Muyo! universe. Ryan performed the English voice for the character, while Norio Wakamoto provided the Japanese voice in the original production. Reference sources also record Ryan under the alternate credit “Weston Peese.”
Ryan’s performance helped give the English version of Kagato a distinctive presence. The character’s serious and threatening personality made the role particularly memorable among English-speaking fans of the franchise.
His Tenchi Muyo! work was not limited to a single credit. IMDb lists him as Kain in Tenchi the Movie: Tenchi Muyo in Love, further connecting him with the franchise.

The couple married in 2001 and maintained a comparatively private family life. A 2020 Irish Times profile described Michael Scott Ryan as a writer and discussed the family’s life in upstate New York.
Because both individuals share the same name, online searches can easily combine information about the voice actor with information about the writer.

More recent public court information provides an important update to older biographies.
A Dutchess County, New York court record identifies Jennifer E. Ryan as the plaintiff and Michael Scott Ryan as the defendant in a matrimonial case. The filing date was April 26, 2024, and the matter is categorized as divorce/separation. The docket also records divorce-related proceedings in 2025.
This means older webpages that continue to describe Jennifer Ehle and Michael Scott Ryan as a current married couple may not reflect the latest publicly available information.
However, information about their private family life remains limited, so it is better to rely on documented public records rather than speculation.
The Office Connection: Michael Scott and Ryan Howard
There is another reason someone might search for michael scott ryan.
Fans of the American version of The Office may unintentionally combine the names of two characters: Michael Scott and Ryan Howard.
Michael Scott, played by Steve Carell, is the regional manager of Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch. Ryan Howard, played by B. J. Novak, begins the series as a temporary employee and later becomes involved in the company’s corporate operations.
Their unusual workplace relationship becomes a recurring source of comedy throughout the series. Michael frequently tries to impress Ryan, mentor him, and treat him as a close friend. Ryan, meanwhile, generally does not share Michael’s level of enthusiasm.
The two names appearing together in searches can therefore create the mistaken phrase “Michael Scott Ryan,” even though Michael Scott and Ryan Howard are separate fictional characters.
Why the Name Causes Confusion
The confusion surrounding michael scott ryan mainly comes from three separate references.
First, there is the American voice actor associated with Kagato and other anime and animation projects. IMDb documents his work across productions such as Tenchi Muyo!, Spawn, Alexander Senki, and Dragon Slayer.
